Overview

Marginalen Bank is a Swedish bank offering financial services for both private individuals and businesses. My work focuses on designing and improving the bank’s digital platforms — including a new internet bank for private and business customers, as well as the ongoing improvement of the mobile app for private users.

Role

I work as a Senior UX Designer at Marginalen Bank, collaborating closely with product managers, developers, and stakeholders across multiple teams. I have been involved in several initiatives across the bank’s digital services, including the design of the new internet bank for both private and business customers, and I currently focus on improving the existing mobile app for private users.

My responsibilities include UX leadership, interaction design, information architecture, and building scalable design systems and components to ensure a consistent and user-focused experience across platforms.

Designing clarity across complex banking products

Banking products often involve complex information, strict regulations, and a wide range of user needs. A key challenge was designing digital experiences that feel clear, trustworthy, and easy to use — while supporting both private individuals and business users with very different requirements.

For the new internet bank, the challenge was building a scalable and intuitive foundation from the ground up, capable of supporting multiple customer segments and evolving business needs over time.

For the mobile app, the challenge lies in evolving an existing product by improving usability, structure, and consistency — without disrupting established user behavior.

Designing for clarity and scalability

My approach centers on clarity and usability. For the internet bank, this meant structuring complex functionality into understandable flows and creating a scalable design foundation that works for both private and business customers.

For the mobile app, the focus is on iterative improvement — refining navigation, simplifying interactions, and continuously improving the experience based on insights from users, data, and cross-functional collaboration.

What changed and what it reinforced

The work contributed to clearer and more consistent digital banking experiences across Marginalen Bank’s platforms. By aligning structure and interaction patterns between the internet bank and mobile app, the experience became easier to understand while remaining flexible across different contexts.

Designing for both private and business users reinforced the importance of scalable UX foundations, close cross-team collaboration, and continuous iteration—especially within complex and regulated product environments.
